This itinerary includes visits to Samye, Drepung, Barkhor, Potala, and Tashilunpo, which are all popular tourist destinations in Tibet. This seven-day itinerary also includes visits to Yambhu Lakhang, Khumbum stupa, and Gyantse Dzong. Lhasa, at an elevation of 3650 meters, is Tibet's holiest city, with pilgrims arriving daily from all across the Tibetan Plateau to worship at one of the city's many temples. You'll have two full days to explore the city.
The first day will be spent seeing the Jokhang Temple, Tibet's most famous temple. Religious visitors prostrate in front of the Jowo Buddha statue inside the monastery, which can be seen from the rooftop. Following that, you'll tour the historic Barkhor circuit's unending maze of markets and eateries. You'll run upon Tibetan pilgrims prostrating their way around the Tibetan Quarter while exploring the Barkhor circle. Drepung Monastery: Drepung was once the world's largest monastery and is currently one of Tibet's three most prominent monasteries. The Potala Palace is Tibet's most well-known structure. The Potala Palace is a 13-story building with almost 1000 rooms that was built in 637. Sera's magnificent monastery, where daily monk arguments take place.
Samye to Yamdrok Lake, one of Tibet's most sacred and beautiful bodies of water. At 4450 meters, Yamdrok Lake is a stunning turquoise color. Mt. Nojin Kangtsang, at 7191 meters, may be seen in the distance. Gyantse, at 3950 meters above sea level, is known for its large hilltop military fort and the Pelkor Chode Monastery, which houses Tibet's tallest Tibetan Buddhist stupa. The Tashilhunpo Monastery is located in Shigatse, at an elevation of 3840 meters. You can travel the old pilgrim route with hundreds of Tibetan devotees in addition to exploring the monastery. Drive to Lhasa via the Northern Friendship Highway, which passes through the Yarlung Tsangpo River.
